Route planning and field service scheduling software, compared

Honest, sourced comparisons of the tools recurring service teams consider, from route planners to all-in-one suites, with published prices checked in October 2026.

Route planners (OptimoRoute, Route4Me, Routific, Upper, RouteManager) optimize stops, usually a day at a time. Field service suites (Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, GorillaDesk and others) run the whole business, with scheduling as one part. Crewtide does one job: planning the recurring week for commercial service teams, with route optimization, windows and crews included. Each comparison below says where the other tool is stronger.

How to choose

  1. Name the real problem. If it’s quotes, invoices and payments, you need a field service suite. If it’s building the recurring week across many technicians, you need a scheduling and routing tool. Many teams use one of each.
  2. Check recurring visits, not just routing. Can it generate weekly, every-other-week and monthly visits from each customer’s cycle, or do you re-create them?
  3. Check windows and crews together. Some optimizers skip visits that have a set time; some can’t put two people on one job.
  4. Count every seat.Per driver, per user, per vehicle or per order pricing gives very different totals once office staff are included.
  5. Test with a real week.Import your customers and compare the plan with the week you actually ran.
